Upgrading from Windows NT to Windows XP Pro Operating System

Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro require new drivers for the PCI System Interface and PCI Signal Averager cards. These new drivers are plug and play compatible. It is best to have these drivers available during the upgrade process so that when the plug and play wizard finds these PCI cards you can tell the wizard where to search for the appropriate driver.
Download WinRT drivers for Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro

For Windows XP Pro, Tecmag recommends having at least 1 Gbyte of computer RAM.

Warning!!! DO NOT UPGRADE TO WINDOWS XP PRO UNLESS YOU ARE SURE YOU HAVE AT LEAST VERSION 1.4 OF NTNMR. Check the version in the Help|About menu. To update from a version of NTNMR older than 1.4, please contact Tecmag's support group at

For DSPect users, the video display card driver that displays the lock signal will also need to be updated. Please contact the manufacturer of the video card for a Windows XP driver. If a driver is not available, Tecmag recommends purchasing a new Hauppauge WinTV PCI card model # 00401.

Upgrading Computers

If your system is equipped with an older Pentium II or Pentium III based computer, you may want to replace the computer with a new Dell computer. The recommended computer configuration for systems equipped with two PCI cards is a Dell Optiplex GX-755.

Download the recommended computer configuration

If your computer has three PCI cards, the recommended computer is a Dell XPS 720 or Precision 390.

  • Order the computer directly from Dell.
  • Upgrade to the latest version of NTNMR Software.
  • Upgrade EPROM's on the PCI interface cards if your existing computer is a Pentium II or Pentium III. Contact Tecmag's support group at
  • For DSPect users, upgrade the video display card driver that displays the lock signal or purchase a new Hauppauge WinTV PCI card model #00401.
  • For configurations that require a serial port, purchase a PCI Express serial card.
